Curiously enough, the model got the win this time around not only for what it has provided drivers, but also for what is about to bring to the road in 2014. Allow us to explain:
Efficiency is catching everyone's attention these days, and the pickup segment is no exception. However, when it comes to hauling, you really can't sacrifice capability in lieu of fuel economy, so trucks have to offer the best of both worlds to really make a statement. The current 1500 provides best in class efficiency in addition to 10,350 lbs of maximum towing a big-time 1,800 lbs payload. So clearly this is your Motor Trend winner, hands down.
If you want even more impressive figures, consider that the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel musters a full 420 lb-ft of torque with a V6 under the hood. Moreover, the model achieved as high as 28 mpg on the highway in preliminary testing. And with those types of figures on tap for the nameplate, the editors simply had to hand the award over for the second straight year.
